Frank Ibarra’s Story

Patient Frank Ibarra sitting in a wheelchair and smiling during a clinic visit.

After falling in the shower, Frank Ibarra was taken to the emergency room. A CT scan indicated that he had a subdural hematoma (a collection of blood outside his brain) and needed to be moved to UHS. Frank’s case was tricky because his heart condition precluded him from being sedated. Thankfully, Dr. Ramesh Grandhi was able to perform a burr hole craniotomy to drain the hematoma using a local anesthetic. Frank’s family described his appearance before and after the surgery as being “like night and day.” When we asked him about his experience at UHS, Frank spoke highly of his physicians: “I want to thank Dr. Samples and Dr. Tavakoli who were there for me when I needed them the most. The care they gave was incredible and Dr. Grandhi is the man!”
