Man Survives Five Story Fall

...At the U.T. Health Science Center, Dr. David Jimenez has seen all different kinds of impalements. The one he is most famous for removing, a 4-pound steel hook in the head of a construction worker. He survived. "It went through the cheek and came out the top of the head," said Jimenez. "When you have somebody that has a metal or some type of object in their bodies, the first thing you need to do is leave it in. If they remove it on the scene the patient could bleed to death."

American Medical Association President, Peter Carmel, M.D., toured the Department of Neurosurgery on July 29, 2011, following his lecture as part of The Distinguished Jim L. Story, M.D. Visiting Professor Lecture Series.
