Josey Patrick's story

Josey Patrick was diagnosed with craniosynostosis at birth. After his parents were referred to David F. Jimenez, MD, FACS, Josey underwent endoscopic surgery. They were initially worried about how the treatment would affect their son’s development but, looking back on the experience, they now consider Josey’s diagnosis to be a minor “hiccup” in their lives.

Today, Josey is 18 years old and thriving. He is working hard at school and has a job.

During a recent follow-up appointment with Dr. Jimenez, we got a chance to talk to Josey’s family about what life was like after surgery. His parents told us that Dr. Jimenez did “amazing work;” Josey was able to perform well in school and enjoy athletic activities, like playing sports. The entire family is grateful for the care their son received and the success of his treatment.

We received this wonderful testimony from the father of a recent patient: "On December 27, 2016, our son [Andrew Demidio] was emergency airlifted to [UHS] for the emergency treatment of a brain abscess. On December 28th, the Surgery team led by neurosurgeon Dr. Ramesh Grandhi successfully performed a 7 hour surgery. During this most difficult ordeal, Dr. Grandhi not only demonstrated his extraordinary surgical expertise, but demonstrated being an outstanding human being to our family. He communicated with us at every turn and showed great compassion and understanding for what our family was going through. He did what he could to relieve our fears and concerns by explaining details as they arose. He was very accessible and reachable, actually giving us his phone number. Now that our son is in his 5th month of post-surgical recovery and has returned to his normal self, Dr. Grandhi remains a friend to our family. He continues to be there at every turn to care for our son and to answer all of our questions and concerns. This man is a truly remarkable person, a truly extraordinary surgeon, and is truly a gift from God. With great appreciation and gratitude, Sincerely, Dr. Robert D’Emidio"

Joyce Ellis suffered from severe back pain for eight years. As time progressed, her pain grew more intense. When it finally became too difficult to perform daily tasks, she decided to set up an appointment with Alexander M. Papanastassiou, MD, who diagnosed her with lumbar spinal stenosis and recommended surgery.

Joyce was impressed with how easily Dr. Papanastassiou was able to determine the cause of her pain.

“The surgery went very well,” she told us. “The pain was gone right after the surgery. I would recommend Dr. Papanastassiou.”

“From the moment we met Dr. Grandhi, we knew he was great,” Oralia told us. “He was one of the best doctors I’ve ever had. He was very helpful. He did everything well and explained each procedure that he performed.”

Oralia underwent a cerebral angiogram and subsequently was taken to the operating room where her ruptured aneurysm was clipped. She remained in the NeuroICU at University Hospital, initially under the care of Dr. Shaheryar Hafeez, where she experienced what she described as “the best care” she ever had.

“He spent so much time with me and made sure everything was ok. Our family loves him.”
