Research Missions

Clinical and Laboratory Research

We are a research program that investigates different issues related to neurosurgery and neurology. Our basic science research program includes projects such as cancer biology, stroke, traumatic brain and spinal injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder. We also have a very active clinical research program, which includes investigation of the efficacy of neurosurgical interventions in brain hemorrhage and brain artery occlusion, neurocritical care, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Research Training and Education

Our goal is to effectively educate and train the next generation of investigators and physician-scientists. We achieve this through the active incorporation of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, medical students, undergraduate students, and high-school students into our research program. In particular, our neurosurgical residents undergo a year of basic science training and investigation during their fifth year of residency.
