Personal Statement:

Jean-Louis R. Caron is a professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio who is widely recognized as an expert in cerebrovascular surgery. His research interests include innovative therapies for neurovascular disorders. Moreover, he has an interest in radiosurgery and complex spinal surgery.

Prior to his academic appointment, Dr. Caron held several neurosurgical professorships at McGill University and at the University of Montreal. He brings vast neurosurgical experience to his position, honed at a variety of respected Canadian medical centers such as Montreal Neurological Hospital, the Montreal General Hospital and the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal.

Dr. Caron’s extensive instructional experience includes more than 20 years of teaching in classroom, laboratory and hospital environments. He has been invited to lecture, chair or moderate at dozens of national and international neurological symposiums. His articles and abstracts have been published in numerous respected medical journals. He holds membership in renowned professional societies such as the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Heart Association. He has served as an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians of Canada’s Fellowship in Neurosurgery, as director of the Neurosurgery training program of the University of Montreal, and is currently a member of the board of directors of the Canadian Neurosurgical Society.

Dr. Caron earned his medical doctorate (magna cum laude) from the University of Ottawa, Ontario, where he won many awards for his academic achievements. He received post-graduate training from McGill University and the University of Ottawa (general surgery), the Montreal Neurological Institute (neurosurgery), and the University of Western Ontario (cerebrovascular surgery). He is Board Certified in neurosurgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
