Cadaver Lab

Dr. John Floyd and Dr. Cameron McDougal recently guided cadaver lab attendees through an orbitozygomatic craniotomy. This approach, sometimes referred to simply as an “OZ,” involves the meticulous removal of bone to minimize brain retraction injury and permit access to deeper parts of the brain that can be difficult to reach during surgery. The OZ technique enables surgeons to treat many different pathologies, including aneurysms, pituitary masses, and skull base tumors. By working with cadavers under the supervision of Drs. Floyd and McDougal, attendees were able to familiarize themselves with the anatomy of the cranial fossa and learn how to perform the OZ technique safely and effectively.
